Summary: 4 days (take a Friday and Monday off). 2 nights in huts, 2 night snow camping. Fairly challenging. Not many do cool trips like this.
Contingency plans/Safety: Wheather can thwart plans. An advantage of reserving two nights is that there's a better chance we'll make it to at least one hut. If weather/conditions are bad on Day 1, we can resort ski and possibly continue with plans on day 2 or 3. If weather turns bad during the trip there are a lot of options to bail out to civilization. This is also a big advantage in the event of emergency. There is probably more cell reception on this route than many trips. I have made calls via T-Mobile from near Benson before.
Day 1:
Set up a car shuttle. (Assuming north to south route...) Drop a car around Sugar Pine Point State Park near the trail head out from Ludlow. Drive back to Sugar Bowl.
Ski in from near Mt Judah parking to Benson hut. 4.7 miles. Gain 1297'
Spend night at Benson Hut.
Day 2:
Ski from Benson to a mid way point. On the maps I marked 3 "camp options" at low points near water. 7-10 miles. Gain/loss...a healthy amount...
Day 3:
Ski from camp to Ludlow Hut. 7-10 miles. Gain/loss...a healthy amount...
Day 4:
Ludlow to Sugar Pine Point trailhead. 5.67 miles. Loss 1162'
Victory meal and drive back to Bay Area.
